Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to send support to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it fails to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It has a very special place for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a group of acclaimed names from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The song blends a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of property described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”
The song is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
