Diving into an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Turdy Character with the Goal to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have found a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a hero that is actually a dung trying to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is simple: you only need a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty stages, encounter boss fights and visit a shop to buy skins for your poop character.

Time your jumps with caution, since one wrong move means starting over. Bounce off bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, navigate disappearing ledges, and interact with buttons to open hidden paths. Gather currency and use them on tougher game content in which gameplay intensifies.

Visually, the experience shows off vibrant environments and an amazing soundtrack. The simple graphics of morphing basic polygons may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though tough to think of other games where you are a piece of feces, video games frequently featured fecal matter. For example, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. And of course, such content shows up extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, like winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on PC on November 19.
