Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented High Temperatures Just Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
After enduring heavy downpours that led to inundation across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now seeing unseasonably high temperatures for late February.
All-Time High Readings
During the day Friday, the mercury climbed to ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, as reported by weather officials. This exceeds the prior high for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was set in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on NWS maps for the region.
Safety Warnings
The weather service cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "higher threat for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a hot car.
An Extreme Weather Swing
This sudden spike in mercury arrives just after a powerful winter storm that battered the state last week. That storm delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, causing mudslide risks for millions residents.
Unfortunately, the conditions also caused a deadly avalanche in the Tahoe area, which claimed the lives of.
Weekend Outlook
The outlook suggests cooler conditions is expected. The heat were predicted to drop to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by late Friday.
Several cities that hit the 90-degree mark featured Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Santa Maria, Oxnard, Camarillo, and Westwood were forecast to see the high 80s.
Over Saturday and Sunday, central Los Angeles can anticipate weather in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures on tap for the following week.
