Ex-president Trump has yet again stated he would urge FIFA to remove upcoming World Cup matches from a venue based on the local governance, with the Boston region now being the most recent urban area to encounter such warnings from the US president. Furthermore, Trump indicated he would consider comparable measures against LA for the upcoming Olympic Games due to possible safety issues.

Jurisdictional Limits and Possible Pressure

Even though Trump lacks official jurisdiction to unilaterally remove either event, he may exert influence the organizing committees overseeing each tournament to shift host cities.

His statements were made during a press event with Argentinian president Milei, who was present in the executive mansion following the announcement of a multibillion-dollar rescue package for the Latin American nation. At the end of the meeting, a reporter inquired Trump about a latest public disturbance in the city where police officers were attacked and a police vehicle was set on fire. The reporter also wondered if the situation could result in the removal of tournament responsibilities for the expanded World Cup.

“I would take them away,” the former president said concerning the soccer fixtures, scheduled to be staged at Gillette Stadium. “Their mayor is not good … she’s far-left, and activists are dominating areas of the city. It's a pretty big claim, right?”

Official Rebuttal

FIFA vice-president Montagliani rejected Trump’s claims when he reacted subsequently at a event in the UK capital.
